In-home support

Some families may need extra support because of difficult circumstances or the specific challenges of caring for three, four or more babies.

3 min read

If you're facing difficult circumstances, our in-home support service can help you adapt and move forward with support from a practitioner.

The support is shaped around what works best for your family.

In-home support may be suitable if any of the following apply:

  • You have, or are expecting, triplets, quads or more

  • You've experienced the death of a parent or child and need support to care for your children

  • A parent or carer has a medical condition that affects your ability to parent, including time in hospital, an operation or complex ongoing treatment

  • A parent or carer is experiencing postnatal depression or another mental health condition

  • One or more of your twins, triplets or more is disabled or has ongoing medical needs that involve hospital stays, regular appointments or complex care

This support is mainly for families with children under the age of five. If your children are older and you need support, you’re still welcome to contact us.

If you're not sure whether you're eligible for in-home support, email inhomesupport@twinstrust.org and we'll help you find the right support.

What our support looks like

All our support is designed with twins, triplets or more in mind and tailored to your family. The help we provide is short-term and aims to help you cope better with the challenges you’re facing.

Our support practitioners and Norland-trained volunteers can offer a visit or a series of visits. Each visit is usually around three to seven hours, depending on your family's needs.

Visits can help with:

  • Establishing, developing or maintaining routines and good sleep habits
  • Bonding and play
  • Getting out and about
  • Support at appointments
  • Accessing local services and referrals for further support
  • Emotional support from someone who'll listen and understand
  • Practical advice on caring for twins, triplets or more
  • Hands-on care at home to help you cope in the early days and weeks of bringing your babies home
  • Preparing for three, four or more babies

Please note we can't offer regular weekly visits or respite care.

All our support practitioners and volunteers have an enhanced DBS check, an up-to-date paediatric first aid certificate and insurance.

Applying for support

You can apply for your own family, or a health professional can refer you. This could be a midwife, health visitor or family support worker. To find out more and apply, visit our application page.
