Our medical negligence services

Unfortunately, there are often circumstances where the care provided throughout the pregnancy and the delivery of twins and triplets falls below the standard expected of maternity services in the UK.

Leigh Day has supported clients throughout the claims process when something has gone wrong and we utilise our expertise in maternity claims to reach successful outcomes for our clients.

If you suspect that you or your child may have sustained a mental or physical injury during the course of your pregnancy, when giving birth, or afterwards, our solicitors are here to offer a confidential, no-obligation discussion with you.

Extremely sympathetic and the perseverance and patience they have is incredible. It is about fighting for those who can't fight back and Leigh Day solicitors fought for me for more than seven years. Need I say more.

It is clear to me that you really committed yourselves to our daughter's case. You prepared a really strong case for her, 100% ready to win in court if that became necessary. Words cannot express the depth of gratitude and respect that I have for you both, in respect of what you have done for our daughter of course, but also for myself, my partner and each of our other children who have all suffered a significantly "changed life" since that fateful day. You have enabled us all to move forward.

Case study

Our medical negligence team helped a family secure £37m in one of the largest maternity negligence claims in NHS history.

The compensation was awarded to the family of a brain-damaged twin boy, left with complex disabilities and requiring round-the-clock care for the rest of his life due to maternity failings at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The twin boy suffered permanent brain damage after maternity staff failed to identify that he was in the breech position, resulting in delays during delivery and oxygen deprivation.

The sum, one of the largest of its kind, stands as a testament to the team's unwavering dedication to fighting injustice and ensuring the child receives the lifelong care and support he deserves. It also highlights the devastating impact of such failings and the critical need for systemic improvements in maternity care in the UK.

Suzanne White, head of medical negligence at Leigh Day, who handled the case, shared: "I have been doing these cases for 20 years, and it is very depressing to see that while the costs of these claims are rising, care doesn't seem to be improving. If we avoid one of these cases, we save millions of pounds and prevent hideous distress and pain for a family."

From the first day, procedures and processes were discussed, avoiding any legal jargon and building a firm foundation of trust and support. No 'pie in the sky' promises were made and I felt at ease that my case would be treated with the respect and professionalism it deserved.
