Our 2026 Study Day: Elevating Care for Multiple Pregnancies, which sold out in advance, welcomed midwives, sonographers and consultants from across the UK.
Throughout the day we explored and discussed key areas of multiple birth care including antenatal risks, improving outcomes, intrapartum care, preterm birth and breastfeeding.
Speakers and sessions
Our keynote speaker, Dr Susie Crowe, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Barts Health NHS Trust, President of the British Intrapartum Care Society (BICS) and the National Workplace Behaviours Adviser for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), opened the day. She shared a clear overview of the current maternity landscape and its challenges.
The programme also included:
- Professor Alexander Heazell, MBChB(Hons) PhD FRCOG, Professor of Obstetrics, discussing antenatal risks in twins and how to improve outcomes
- Dr Surabhi Nanda, Consultant Obstetrician/Maternal Fetal Medicine Subspecialist at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital and Kim Hinshaw MB BS FRCOG, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (retired), on intrapartum care, followed by a live sonography demonstration
- Professor Asma Khalil, MD, MBBCh, MRCOG, MSc(Epi), DFSRH, Dip(GUM), Professor of Fetal Medicine and Lead of the Twin and Multiple Pregnancy Service, St George's Hospital, on the recently released National Maternal and Perinatal Audit - Multiple Births Outcomes of Maternity Care

- Dr Andrew Sharp MBBS, MRCOG, PhD, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, University of Liverpool and Liverpool Women’s Hospital on preterm birth in twins
Attendees heard what help Twins Trust can offer with regards to triplets, antenatal education and bereavement support. Bereaved parents Dave and Daniela Stockman-Ward kindly shared their journey and the loss of one of their twin daughters.
We closed the day with our popular interactive panel discussion, shaped by questions submitted in advance and from the audience on the day.
The Study Day was sponsored by Irwin Mitchell, with scanning machines provided by GE. We're very grateful for their support.
