Club insurance support

If you run a multiples group and you're not set up as a registered charity or a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), you'll need to make sure your club has suitable insurance.

Without insurance, organisers can be personally liable if something goes wrong, such as an accident or injury. We don't want this to happen to any of our registered clubs, so we offer an insurance grant.

Our insurance grant can pay eligible clubs up to £100 towards the cost of insurance. We can support clubs who currently don't have insurance and those who are due for renewal.

To apply, you'll need to meet all of these:

  • You're signed up to Our Best Practice Principles
  • You have a club bank account
  • Your annual income doesn't exceed £2,500
  • Your club reserves don't exceed £500
  • You can't use the insurance cover of the venue where you meet

We'll ask for proof of your club bank account and reserves.

We have limited funds each year, so we'll consider applications based on eligibility and need, while funds allow. New clubs can apply once they've been running for three months.

To apply, please download the form and fill it in. Send the completed form with a copy of your up to date club accounts and proof of your club bank account by email to our team or by post to Twins Trust, 10-18 Union Street, London, SE1 1SZ.

If your application is successful, you'll need to buy your insurance and send us proof of the insurance certificate. We'll then transfer the agreed funds to your club bank account.

If you have any questions, please email our team.

Legal wording

The words you use on your leaflets, Facebook page and website matter, especially when you're describing your club's status and your relationship with Twins Trust. The guidance below will help you choose wording that's accurate and legally appropriate.

How to describe your Twins Trust status

Please always say that your club is 'registered' with Twins Trust. Avoid describing it as 'affiliated' with Twins Trust. The term 'affiliated' has legal rules and regulations linked to it, so it's important not to use it. Make sure you use the same wording across your printed materials, website and social media.

How to describe your not for profit status

In England and Wales, the term 'charitable' has a specific legal meaning, that a group is registered with the Charity Commission. The Charity Commission can take action if a group uses 'charitable' but isn't registered. Use the term 'not for profit' instead and make sure you use this across your website, social media and printed materials.
